If you are the proud owner of a new MacBook, a Chromebook, or new mobile phone, chances are that you’re in need of a USB-C charger. The USB-C chargers at the moment come in a diverse variety, ranging from cheap import chargers to higher quality and certified devices.
While saving a few bucks on a charger might give you enough budget to buy an extra coffee or two, there is a chance that the USB type C charger might be unsuitable for your device. Some devices are protected against faulty chargers, some are not, and it’s going to be an expensive exercise to find out if your device is protected.
Fear not. Instead of trying our which chargers are the correct and safe ones, we’ve created an overview of the chargers which we have tested ourselves, and which are of high quality. This should give you the trust that these devices are compatible with any of your devices, and won’t cause any damage!
USB-C quick charge is a standard introduced by Qualcomm. While convenient, since it allows you to charge your device faster, Qualcomm Quick Charge is not compatible with USB-C. This is because Qualcomm’s standard takes over data lines on the USB-C device to charge, instead of sending data. This makes it impossible to send data as well as power over the USB-C connection, which is against the USB-C standard. What does this mean for you? Will your devices blow up? Will they become incredibly hot? Probably not, and probably most devices will work fine. However, if you don’t want to take the risk, we advice you stay away from chargers labeled with Quick Charge. Sometimes it’s better to wait a bit longer.
