Recently, we reported about the new Windows Surface tablet. In the meantime, a new Windows Surface has been released. Our biggest complaint on the earlier version was the lack of USB-C ports. The newer version of the Windows Surface has…also zero USB-C ports? Apparently, Microsoft doesn’t see the value in releasing a USB-C version of their tablet PC. This is not a surprising way of thinking, since most Surface tablets are used in an office environment, where the uptake of USB-C peripherals is often a bit slower. However, for the home users of the Surface tablet, this decision is regrettable.
This idea is shared Eve team. While it’s clear that they like the Surface tablet, the lack of USB type ports was a bit of an issue for them too, and with their upcoming release (planned for the 8th of July) of the first batch, we thought it would be nice to share some updates about the project.
The Eve V
So, what exactly is the Eve V? The Eve V is a 2-in-1 tablet and laptop computer developed by Eve and its community. And community, that’s where it’s at with the Eve. The project isn’t a standard Big Company Launches New Product announcement. It’s a project actively run by the community, for the community. It’s funded by the community. It’s designed by the community. It’s supported by the community. The project is a clear step away from the Big Corporations ran projects, an image which is reflected clearly in the design of the Eve hacker like website.
But what exactly is the Eve V? Well, as mentioned, it’s a tablet with USB C ports. And while it has the hacker like image, it runs on the least hacky Operating System, Microsoft Windows 10. The tablet comes equipped with Intel 7th generation i7, 512GB SSD, Quad Speakers, a 2736×1824 12.3 inch screen, and, last but not least, great connectivity options. The Eve V has 2 USB-A ports, 1 USB-C port, and 1 USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port. And these ports make the Eve V for us an interesting option! Yes, the Eve V is cheaper. It’s faster. It’s community designed. All great. But USB-C ports. On a Windows tablet. Finally!
