Ars Technica reports that Intel is planning to replace its Compute Stick with an even smaller Compute Card. It would run CPUs with a power usage of up to 6W. Dimensions would be somewhat taller than a creditcard:
It would use a variant of the USB-C port called “USB-C plus extensions”. The word Thunderbolt is not used, which leaves us wondering what exactly is meant here.
In any case, assuming these Compute Cards use the the latest Intel Kaby Lake architecture, this would be quite interesting for use with a TV. The reason is that the major (some would say only) improvement that Kaby Lake brings, is hardware acceleration for the VP9 encoding. Which YouTube uses.
