Bourge Design Arc Hub not reliably doing 4K @ 60 Hz

After a successful crowdfunding campaign, the Bourge Design Arc Hub is getting into the hands of reviewers. We haven’t received our order yet, but will update when we’ve got the chance. In the meantime some quotes from a review by Jeff Geerling:

“So when I saw the Arc Hub’s specs, I thought it was finally the hub to end all hubs—4K at 60 Hz over Mini DisplayPort, plus a UHS-I-ish SD card reader, and HDMI port, two USB 3.0 type A ports, and a USB-C plug for up to 85W power delivery? I’m in!

Well, the excitement kind of died down once I tested both of my two Mini DisplayPort cables, as well as two HDMI 2.0-rated cables. None of them offered me a full 60 Hz refresh rate!”

The exact cause is not clear at the moment. Is it the monitor, the cable or the hub? Jeff tries multiple cables to no avail. The official support page suggests playing around with the resolutions or using QuickRes. We’re quite disappointed that they don’t publish a number of known cable/monitor combinations.

It’s clearly advertised that the hub can do 4K @ 60Hz, and this is quite a unique feature to our knowledge. Of course, the US$ 300+ Thunderbolt 3 docks can all do this, but among the USB-C docks, only the CalDigit USB-C dock can do this (and only with a firmware update). But at the moment this Arc Hub feature doesn’t seem to be reliable.
